Calabria - Lucania- Basilicata; This is one of the few regions in the world where time sees to have stood still. Dozens of different races have landed on this coast, yet the countryside itself has preserved its wild and primitive appearance. There are vast olive groves, fine plantations of jasmine, roses, mimosa and lavender along with half the world’s production of bergamot. The ancient Romans appreciated sausage so the region offers assorted sausages, ham and pork dishes. They are specialized in a whole series of bread-like products as well as their deserts. The food is heavily spiced because of the influence of Africa nearby.. Heavy wines with high alcoholic content are drank to help digest and counterbalance the spicy flavors.
